A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Technology that Powers Whistle Devices
Whistle knows that small devices can deliver big insights.
Whistle Health, Health & GPS and Health & GPS+ use best in class tech to provide real time health monitoring data, fitness features, location alerts and Ask A Vet access to help make you a more informed pet parent.
The ability to track behaviors and set activity goals allows you to take a proactive approach to managing your pet’s health—and it’s possible thanks to a partnership between Whistle Labs and Pet Insight Project’s FilterNet.
FilterNet is a flexible deep learning architecture that collects and analyzes behavioral data around the clock and transforms it into clinically meaningful insights. Whistle devices and FilterNet provided the technology that powered the Pet Insight Project.
As part of the Whistle Pet Insight Project and FilterNet partnership, data collected from Whistle FIT activity monitors was paired with videos captured by citizen scientist volunteers to generate 16 billion minutes of data from more than 11 million days in dogs’ lives to pinpoint behaviors linked to canine health issues.
The pioneering study combined behavior predictions with medical records from Banfield Pet Hospital, allowing researchers to interpret the health stories of hundreds of thousands of dogs.
The behind-the-scenes work that went into creating the algorithms that allow Whistle Health, Health & GPS and Health & GPS+ to analyze data resulted in powerful insights for pet owners.
If you have a pet that is overweight, aging or has health conditions like arthritis or allergies, Whistle offers a high tech approach to managing their health that no other device can match.
Obesity
Almost 56 percent of dogs are obese, which increases the risk of health issues like heart disease, diabetes and arthritis. You can use Whistle Health, Health & GPS and Health & GPS+ to set activity goals, use the Ask A Vet feature to make a free appointment with a vet to develop a weight loss plan and track your dog’s progress toward reaching their ideal weight.
Allergies
Excessive licking and scratching are common signs of allergies. Whistle tracks these behaviors to alert you that your dog may be dealing with allergies. The devices will also provide data to show that the behaviors have decreased, a potential sign that treatments are working.
Aging dogs
Conditions like arthritis, diabetes and cancer common in older dogs and can cause symptoms ranging from increased thirst, anxiety and weight gain to pacing, whining, lethargy and mobility issues. Whistle devices can alert you to changes in your dog’s behavior and the Ask A Vet feature can connect you with the vet via call, chat, video or email to provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Whistle devices do more than collect data.
The AI-powered insights offered through FilterNet take an industry leading approach to transforming those data points into meaningful, actionable information. It means that all dogs wearing a Whistle device have a “voice” that may allow you—and your veterinarian—to provide your four-legged friend with better care than ever before.
