Whistle Launches New Android App – Whistle 2.0
Hello there, my name is Nicole with the Whistle product team. I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting and important updates regarding our Android app!
After a thorough evaluation last year, we acknowledged that there are significant shortcomings with our current Android app. The Whistle Android app used a codebase that was about ten years old, patched over the years with various software additions, and it became difficult to manage. We realized that a major overhaul was long overdue.
How Whistle developed the new Whistle 2.0 App for Android
We began the development to reconstruct our app late last year, and it became quickly apparent that we would need to dig deep to create an experience that our Android users rightly deserved. That meant modernizing the underlying codebase by rewriting everything from scratch and reintegrating the full suite of tools and software that we use to maintain service. It also meant that our current Android team spent a lot of time researching, discovering, and learning about our system as they went.
We’d had an ambitious goal of releasing the new app in early 2024, but quickly realized that we would need more time to get things right. New this Fall, we now have the Whistle 2.0 Android app ready for release, taking Whistle to the next level with better than ever performance, modernization, and upgrades to the most-used features within the app.
I do want to take a moment and recognize that the excitement of a much-needed update has a caveat. Balancing business deadlines with quality, we opted to prioritize releasing a version we're proud of, albeit with some features slated for future updates. Two of our key health features you know and love – the activity timeline and the emotional wellness journal – were moved into a later version and won’t be present for this initial launch.
I assure you that our top priority is bringing these features back soon in a better-than-before way. Our team is dedicated to enhancing nearly a year's worth of hard work to deliver an unparalleled Whistle experience for our Android users. We’ll continue providing updates on key feature releases as soon as possible.

How do I upgrade?
Upgrading is a breeze. Head to the Google Play Store and look for "Whistle 2.0." It's free to download, and always will be. Open the app and set your Bluetooth and Location permissions for uninterrupted synchronization with your Whistle device. Log in using your existing credentials and you're ready to go!
Do I have to delete the old app to use the new one?
No! No forced upgrades here. You get the best of both worlds: download the updated app, Whistle 2.0, from the Play Store and keep your current app so you can transition seamlessly when you're ready.
Do I have to make a new account?
No! When upgrading, you can use your existing credentials.
How long do I have to upgrade?
Once a majority have updated to the new app, the current app will be retired from the Play Store. But fear not, it will stay on your phone until you delete it.
What’s next for the Whistle 2.0 App for Android?
We are diligently working to release two outstanding features you know and love – the activity timeline and the emotional wellness journal – and will be sure to let you know the second they’re added to the new Whistle 2.0 app.
